Get Glowing with these Holiday DIY's

One of my favorite things to do this time of year is get in the kitchen to mix up some DIY's. They're the perfect holiday gift for those who are on a budget or wants to create something completely custom for someone special.

Here’s a few of my favorite recipes:

Custom Lip Balm:

  • 1 tablespoon of beeswax

  • 4 tablespoons of coconut oil

  • 3 tablespoons of petroleum jelly

  • Small slice of preferred lipstick

Instructions: Combine beeswax, coconut oil and jelly into microwave safe bowl and heat for 45 seconds (or until melted). While the mixture is still warm, mix in your slice of lipstick. Pour into desired container and let set in the refrigerator for 24 hours.

Pinterest-Worthy Gemstone Soap:

  • White glycerin soap pack

  • Clear glycerin soap pack

  • Few drops of preferred essential oil

  • Soap coloring

Instructions: Cut the white glycerin soap into small cubes and microwave 1-2 minutes (until fully melted), then place mixture into small plastic cups and dye using soap coloring to preference and allow mixture to set. Once cooled cut each mix into small, gemstone-like pieces and group several into a silicon mold. Next, microwave the clear glycerine soap until fully melted and pour mixture over small gem pieces in silicon mold. Allow to cool in refrigerator (30-45 minutes) and you’re set! Feel free to cut the soap with a non-serrated edge knife, molding it more into a large gem shape.

Gorgeous Floral Bath Bombs:

  • 2 cups baking soda

  • 1 cup cream of tartar

  • 6 tablespoons epsom salt

  • 1 tablespoon each of dried lavender, rose… choose preferred floral scents

  • Few drops of preferred essential oil. Christina suggests citrus, lavender, peppermint, rose

  • coconut oil

  • Water spray bottle

Instructions: Combine dry ingredients first and separate into four bowls (each should contain about 3/4 cup of the mixture), Add preferred oil and dried flowers/herbs to each of the 4 bowls (completely customizable) along with 2 teaspoons of melted coconut oil. Begin to mold each bath cube, spraying a bit of water to mixture if it’s too dry. Pack each mix into silicone ice cube tray and allow mixture to dry (about 24 hours).

Gingerbread Body Scrub:

  • 1/4 cup Almond or Olive Oil

  • 1/2 cup Olive oil glycerin soap base

  • 1 cup brown sugar

  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1/4 teaspoon ginger

  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

  • 1/4 teaspoon allspice

  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves

Melt olive oil base over double boiler. Add almond oil and stir until completely combined/melted. In a separate bowl, combine remaining ingredients. Combine both mixtures together and stir well – working quickly, as mixture will begin to harden. Place mixture into select molds and let harden overnight.

Rosemary and Eucalyptus Shower Bomb:

  • 1 cup baking soda

  • 1/2 cup citric acid

  • 1/2 cup arrowroot powder or cornstarch

  • Spray bottle filled with water

  • Essential oil of choice (Christina's using Rosemary and Eucalyptus).

Mix together dry ingredients until well combined. Slowly combine your essential oils (20-30 drops recommended). Give the mixture a few spritzes of water, stirring simultaneously until mixture takes on the texture of wet sand. Place mixture into silicone molds of choice or mold with hands to desired shape. Let dry overnight.

Orange and Cinnamon Lip Scrub:

  • 1/4 cup sugar (white, brown or sugar in the raw preferable)

  • 1/2 teaspoon of fresh orange zest

  • 1/8 teaspoon of cinnamon

  • 2-3 tablespoons of olive oil (depending on how hydrating you'd like the scrub)

Combine all ingredients together and place into small, sealed glass jars. Good up to 1 week.
